Covid-19 Response
Covid-19 Response
Kevin Sims, Superintendent of Minco Schools
Sunday, March 22, 2020

Minco Family,

The past week was filled with many challenges unlike we have ever seen in my lifetime of near fifty years.  It seems that our challenges have only begun. These times we are facing are unprecedented in our country and even world. The Coronavirus known as Covid 19 has taken over by storm. In this time we work through the challenges by being smart and working together.

Here at Minco we are working carefully and diligently with state leaders in our state to stay informed on the most recent developments with this situation. Our understanding of Covid 19 will change, but hear me out, stay calm and steady, wash your hands, stay home when you are sick, avoid large crowds, and use social distancing, and follow the recommendations of our state and national leaders.

Currently we plan to resume school on April 6th as mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.  However, this could change as concern for public health and well-being grows. We need parents to prepare for remote and virtual instruction if this is to occur.  We will have several announcements this week, and this will be a work in progress. If you do not have internet access at home, please contact our office at 405-352-4867 or email twittrock@minco.k12.ok.us for middle school, cshirley@minco.k12.ok.us for high school, and ksims@minco.k12.ok.us for elementary grades.

We as school districts cannot provide virtual instruction through April 5th.  However, past that point that will most likely change. During the next two weeks, please read with you children.  Netflix has great resources, and children in elementary and middle school can log in to study island at https://app.studyisland.com/cfw/login/.  I would also suggest projects such as cooking, gardening and physical fitness activities like walking/jogging, and push-ups and sit-ups.

We certainly understand that you will have concerns and frustrations in the coming weeks.  We ask you for patience and understanding during this time. We will continuously have resources listed on our website: www. Minco.k12.ok.us.  Furthermore, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me at ksims@minco.k12.ok.us.

I will be giving updates on our Minco Public Schools Facebook page.  Please join that page. I will be giving FB live updates weekly to keep you posted on events.

This is an incredibly difficult time for all of us.  We will stand together in solidarity and unity, and get through this storm.

God Bless,

Kevin Sims
