This week is a great week. On Thursday, August 20th, Minco Public Schools will Open to students for the first time since March 12th. To say we are excited is an understatement. We miss our kids. This last week seeing our softball teams play, and our football team practice has really been a joy. It's time to get school going again.
This year we have two options. One is in person schooling at Minco in the brick and mortar system. The other is virtual. We respect that families due to health related issues will choose this option. Virtual students will have daily work in Edgenuity or Odysseyware. These are intensive online learning programs. Our teachers will guide this process, and our students will have access to help through email and other means.
We are looking forward to opening our doors this Thursday. We are committed to providing these students with a great education. We are going to pour out our best effort for these students. With that being said, we have many protocols in place to help ensure that we can provide that education as safely as possible. It is going to take us all working together to make this happen. We have safety protocols in place that are required. These processes will happen daily and must happen daily for us to be able to meet in person.
You can access our Covid-19 practices and procedures by visiting our website at www.minco.k12.ok.us. When we have to make updates, you will be notified through email and text. Please make sure the school has your cell number and phone number. Number one is the mask mandate. It is important that we protect each other by wearing a face covering. This is not negotiable unless we have a statement from your child’s doctor. Masks, Neck Gaiters, and Face Shields are appropriate to meet this requirement. If your child has a statement from a doctor that they cannot wear one of these items, please contact your child’s principal as soon as possible.
Each day we ask that you answer SEVEN questions. This has been mailed to you and will be on the website. This is a covid screening. If all the answers are no, your child may go to school. Once at school, your child will have their temperature taken. If your child has a temperature of less than 100 degrees, they may go to class. If your child has fever or develops fever, they will be isolated and will be required to go home. They may not return to school for 10 school days and are symptom free for 24 hours without the use of medicine. However, they may come back to school earlier than the 10 days with a written diagnosis of an illness other than covid by a physician, and must be fever and symptom free for 24 hours. Children that complete their work daily at home while ill or quarantined will not be counted absent on the days they complete their school work.
A child who tests positive for the covid must be quarantined for 10 days and be symptom free for 24 hours. Students who are exposed by being within 6 feet for 15 minutes of a person who has Covid-19, will have to be quarantined for 10 school days. We have seating charts and a plan for contact tracing to help with this issue. We will provide virtual learning while these students are quarantined, and they will not be counted absent on the days they complete their work. This situation will unfortunately happen, but we are prepared and we can do this.
This school year will be unlike any we have ever had, but we will do this. We can do this. We will work together by screening, wearing a face covering and taking the proper steps to help ensure the safety of our students and staff. I do appreciate your patience and support of what we have to do. Thank you Minco. WE CAN DO THIS!
